Prescription Refills
Medications, especially for those pets just beginning their lives and those nearing the end of them, are both recommended and necessary. However, medicines can be difficult to administer, especially when you have to devise ways of getting your pet to eat them. We can help by offering medications in forms your pet will ingest and suggestions for dosing.
Medications will be suggested or prescribed only when they are necessary, and in the exact form and dosage your pet requires. Our doctors will discuss each medication with you so that you understand its effects and side-effects. We will work with you to set up a home regime that works with your pets needs and your lifestyle.
Our on-site pharmacy is rather similar to a human pharmacy. Here are some things you should know:
- Give sufficient time for your prescription; calling at least a day ahead insures that we have your prescription in stock, especially for less common medications.
- If you call us before noon, we should have it ready by 3 PM that same afternoon. If you call us after noon, it should be ready after 8 AM the following morning.
- If we are unavailable to answer the prescription line, please leave us a phone number where you are reachable. In certain instances, we will need to speak with you concerning the medication. Perhaps you have called for a refill and there is no refill for that medication or a pet will need further blood work before we issue a refill. Constantly assessing your pet’s progress with a medication ensures that your pet will receive exactly the right dosage.
- Compound medications are also available in our pharmacy. Compound medications combine a few different components and flavoring to ensure that your pet is getting the most from its medication. For example, cats are usually very willing to take our tuna-flavored liquid medicines. Ask your veterinarian about this option.
