People are often shocked to learn just how much a pet's teeth have to do with its overall health and well-being. If, for instance, a pet's teeth have become infected or there is an infection somewhere in the oral cavity, a pet might chose not to eat. Going without food, and/or proper food, for prolonged periods can do great harm to the pet's internal organs and stamina. Through proper and regular dental care, good health can be maintained.

Huntersville Animal Care Hospital offers top of the line dental services and products. During each annual exam, your pet's teeth will be assessed. Again, this is quite important. We consider each pet on an individual basis, and assess the procedures necessary for each pet based solely on that pet's needs and particular set of circumstances.

While there are some measures for dental health that pet owners can employ at home, often problems must be addressed with dentistry at the clinic. Some pets can develop a very thick coating of tartar on their teeth. While at home brushing is a good idea, tartar removal will have to be dealt with by professionals.

Ideally, we would like to see each pet's teeth brushed twice a day. Sometimes it is not possible for pet owners to maintain this intense program. Pet care is as much about the owner as it is about the pet. The needs of both are intertwined. We will work with owners to find new and more convenient ways to provide at home dental care for their pets. Many owners use a mouth rinse for their pet in lieu of brushing because it is easier. Enzymatic cleaners are also available.

As we mentioned in the Wellness section of this site, we will provide dietary consultations as diet can be a determinant of pet oral hygiene and health.
